Weight Loss Secrets for Men 0
12:42 PMBy following the sedentary lifestyle, most men of today tend to gain a lot of weight. The main reason is accumulation of fat and the absence of a source to cut down these calories. Thus, following are some weight loss secrets that may come handy even in the ever so busy lifestyle.
Practice to stay active all the timeIt has been observed that those men and women who have a high level of physical activity manage to keep their weight normal. These activities need not be of any special kind. They may be as simple as taking a brisk walk in the neighbourhood park, walking your dog, cycling, weight lifting, or even aerobics.
If you are crunched for time, some type of a high intensity activity can prove helpful to burn calories faster.
Such vigorous physical activities may include:
1- Bicycling: This should preferably be at a speed more than 10 miles per hour. One may start off at a slower pace in the initial days, gradually picking up speed and then maintaining a good pace in it.
2- Opt for freestyle laps in swimming.
3- Aerobics are also one of the most effective ways to lose weight. While they are fast and therefore less passive, they are also fun at the same time.

4- Doing some heavy yard work such as chopping wood.
5- Weight lifting but this involves some very vigorous efforts.
6- Running/jogging at an even pace of 5 miles per hour on an average.
7- Walking very fast, say at 4 1/2 miles per hour, though this may vary from person to person.
8- Basketball that is competitive and therefore more active.
Never skip you breakfastOne must always keep this point in mind. A typical breakfast such as cereal and fruit can increase the body’s metabolism, helping you burn more calories during the day. It also helps avoid overeating later in the day.
Opt for a low calorie dietYou are what you eat. One of the secrets of keeping a low weight profile entails eating a low calorie diet. Most of the successful weight loss programs are reported to include least amount of fat in their diet plans.
While taking into account green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits and a balanced diet, cut down on eating fast food, aerated drinks, and all the unhealthy snacking habits.
Maintain a consistent eating pattern
Binge eating on a frequent basis is not at all a healthy option. Take out time to plan your diet and subsequently stick to it. People who are consistent with their diet are more likely to keep all that excess weight off.
Hit the scales
Researchers have proven that people who frequently check their weight have the advantage to catch even a small weight gain and thus, remind themselves to take steps to correct them.
Catch the slips lest they take the form of a bigger problem
Take very good care not to add a lot of weight all of a sudden. Those people who are able to prevent an extra pound or two from adding up are more likely to maintain their weight loss successfully over the long term.

Shaving is a task for majority of the men and becomes more tasking when accompanied with cuts or razor bumps due to ingrown hairs.
If shaving is irritating your skin your razor might be the culprit. Both electric and manual razor have their pros and cons and one must evaluate their benefits before using them.
Manual razors give a closer shave as the blades reach nearer to the skin which can also lead to skin irritation.
Electric razor can be used if you have frequent razor bumps as it does not give a close shave but can equally be irritating to the skin as it “pulls” the hair. Use what works for you.
Various shaving products are available in the market to follow your shaving regime of cleanse, pre-shave, shaving, toning and moisturizing.
To get an irritation-free skin after shaving, use a face wash first followed by pre-shave oil which protects your facial skin by softening your beard and enabling a close shave.
After shaving your beard, an after care routine of toning up with an after-shave and light moisturizing is essential. Alcohol-based aftershaves should be avoided. Apply an aloe vera based lotion or a soothing aftershave with vitamin E to calm irritated skin.
Shaving creams with glycolic acid works as an exfoliating agent which helps in sloughing off dead skin cells and enabling smoother shave.
Shaving in the direction of hair growth is recommended as compared to against the grain as it can lead to skin irritation.
An alcohol-free toner or astringent should be used especially for oily skin as it contracts skin pores and firms up the skin helping in rejuvenation of skin without affecting the ph balance.
A new survey has found that 60 percent of men consult their partners on what to wear before heading to work.
One in five revealed that they like to have an outfit prepared for them on a daily basis, while others always ask for a second opinion before venturing out, the Daily Mail reported.
Although some men might express an interest in fashion but according to the research most would rather let their partner to dress them.
Many believed that they trusted their partner's judgement more than their own while others let their partner take control because it was something they enjoyed.
Most common items that men selected for themselves comprised socks, underwear and shirts.
Gill Politis, director of High and Mighty, a men's fashion retailer which conducted the survey, said that based on her own experience, the findings did not surprise her.
"Looking your best for the office is really important. From giving the best first impression to shining in the boardroom, making sure you are dressed to impress really can make all the difference to how confident you feel at work," she said.
"It comes as no surprise to me that the majority of men are dressed by their wife or partner as we see many of our customers coming into store and waiting patiently whilst their other half picks out what they think will look best.
But it is not just advice that men look for as many said that they also let their partner physically dress them.
The survey revealed that men ask their partner to do up their tie (58 per cent), straighten their collar (43 per cent), help them with their cufflinks(36 per cent) and to button up their shirt (29 per cent).
The poll also divulged that men aged between 18 and 24 are most likely to let their partner dress them for work every day and those aged between 35 and 44 are least likely to rely on a partner to help them dress.

A study on the role of obesity in cancer screening rates for prostate, cervical as well as breast and colorectal cancers across race/ethnicity and gender is examined in the current issue of the Journal of Obesity.
Researchers in Family and Community Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University recently found that obesity was linked to higher rates of prostate cancer screening across all races/ethnic differences and lower rates of cervical cancer screening, most notably in white women.
"Numerous studies have suggested that obesity constitutes an obstacle to cancer screening, but a deeper examination also considering the role of race/ethnicity and gender in the equation has not been done before," said Heather Bittner Fagan, MD, FAAFP MPH, lead author and associate professor, Thomas Jefferson University and director of Health Services Research, department of Family and Community Medicine, Christiana Care Health System. "A greater understanding of the relationship between cancer screening and obesity, race/ethnicity and gender can also help explain the association between obesity and increased cancer mortality."
Obesity is second only to tobacco use as a risk factor for cancer and is associated with increased mortality for all cancer combined as well as for cancer of specific sites, including cancer of the colon/rectum, prostate, breast, and cervix.

About 35 percent of respondents said they would trade a year of their life to achieve their ideal body weight or shape.
The greatest issue men have is with their muscularity, with 60 percent saying that their arms, chests and stomachs were not muscular enough.
This desire for more muscle mass may explain why one in five men questioned was on a high protein diet, and nearly one in three used protein supplements.
The survey also found that 80 per cent of men who responded engaged regularly in conversation about one another's bodies, which researchers referred to as 'body talk'.
"Body talk reinforces the unrealistic beauty ideal which reinforces leanness and muscularity," BBC quoted Dr Philippa Diedrichs, who led the study, as saying.
"Body talk reinforces the unrealistic beauty ideal which reinforces leanness and muscularity
"This is traditionally seen as an issue for women but our research shows that men are feeling the pressure to conform too," she said.
Dr Diedrichs said this was not a case of encouraging obesity, but an attempt to not trivialise negative body image issues.
"We need to take a collaborative approach to promoting an environment that values diversity in appearance and promotes healthy body image," she said.
